LESSON #1: Body Posture and Leg/Hip/Torso Movement

Move to Lesson #2 after you can meet the following criteria;

  • You can generate what feels to be your current maximum speed, this is going to take some time to get to a true ‘burst speed’.
  • You do not have discomfort when doing 10 or more full speed repetitions without taking a break
  • You can do each drill without giving it your full concentration; in other words you are sensing a strong amount of muscle memory dictating the actions
  • You have watched yourself, either in a mirror or using video, to verify you are making the moves correctly 95% of the time.  In other words you do not need to be perfect, but the move should be done successfully without a lot of concentration.

Lesson xa: Left Leg Timing

Purpose;  work the left leg to cause the torso to move.   The left leg is a great trigger for the swing, but the risk is still the torso is not going to move on plane;   this leaves a need to revisit spine angle, right foot/right hip positions

Do This:

  • Associate the left leg straightening to the torso still moving.   The torso is going to move until impact where it will slow down for some, for others the torso will start slowing prior to impact.   You can see when that happens by when the arms start to move out front.   Try to get that later and later.
  • The left leg 'snaps' to create burst speed.    You may see some golfers do this so quickly the left foot moves backward.   Some would say "he moves his left foot", but I say "his left foot was moved by the speed that he moved his left hip backward.
  • A drill without a ball is to take the caub back and look at the back wall or whatever is where a DTL camera might be.   Feel the shoulders square to that wall.    Lookin back will help you get to this position.    Then use the left leg to straighten, see if your torso can deliver the left arm to the ball and straighten prior to or just at impact.    If its just after that is ok too.
